  • Festiva Engine and tranny Change

Hello, Im new to the board and I'm trying to read and learn as much as I can. Sorry in advance for any Newb questions.

Im buying a 1993 Festiva with an auto tranny and a blown engine along with a 1989 Festiva with a rotten frame and good motor / 5 speed tranny. I want to pull the motor and transmission from the 89 and put them in the 93. Im sure the 93 is fuel injected but I dont know about the 89. When did they change to FI? What kind of a project do I have ahead of me? Also, how much power do you guys think a stock bottom end (b3?) will hold before it starts coming apart?

The 89 is probably a carb engine. Just use the long block. The tranny may also only be a 4 speed, the switched to 5 speeds in 1990. The fuel injection was introduced in 89 with the automatic cars and 90 with the 5 speed cars.

Is the 4-speed that bad of a tranny?

Also, will the Auto ECU run fine with the manual trans?

          Yes.

You need to change the diver side tranny harness for a manual tranny harness it plugs in no wiring necessary. Pedals and shifter also but that obvious.

          Thanks

Thanks for the help! Now, the second part of my question: How much power will the bottom end of this motor hold (I believe you guys call it a b3) before it starts coming apart? I've searched and it looks like it'll be in the 120-130 range.

1989 had an optional 5 speed, they were standard in 1990, and 1988 were 4 speed only.
