Hi everyone, this is my first post. I recently picked up a red 89 manual Festiva that has the 5 speed from a 90 Festiva swapped into it according to the seller. Its engine is in pretty good shape for it's age and I'm working on getting it back on the road. I have the stock carburetor off of the Festiva and have both the adapter for the Escort carb from Rocketman and a carb for a 1981-82 1.6L Escort. I'm still new to learning about the Festiva and curious about how to setup the whole thing. What vacuum lines do I need to run for the carb and everything else to run properly? What is the best way to setup the throttle linkage? Do I need to wire up the connectors for the solenoids on the carb itself? Any information would be helpful as I've tried to find some info but I was just hoping someone could give me some form of guide that knows how to do it properly. Thanks.

Do you have the 32/34 Webber carb? I am in process of doing a different motor on my 89 (been going for a while I am slow at it) but I did a full carb swap. If you have a pic that would be great. it has been a while since I did mine. I think you need one vac line and a hot wire for the solenoids, has 2 iirc. Also I mounted the carb reverse so the throttle would work without too much modification.if you have any more questions just ask, u can pm if u want. There are a few versions of the Escort carb, post some pics from different angles and I'll point out what needs to be used, tossed, or modified to use it on a Festiva.
For the most part you can ditch all of the vacuum lines except the ones for the brake booster, two for the distributor, and possibly one for the choke pull off depending on which version of the carb you have. If you have A/C and the carb has the idle up dashpot, there are some vacuum solenoid switches on the firewall that you'll need to keep.
You'll want to remove and block off the egr system, The Festiva Store has a block off plate or you can make your own.
I took the stock throttle linkage off the stock carb, cut off the unneeded tabs, and used it on the escort carb to keep a similar throttle cable position as stock.
I used a universal round air filter and made my own base plate from 1/8" aluminum, or you can get an escort filter from a junkyard.
The choke needs full 12v ignition on, do not use the stock Festiva choke power wire from the alternator as its lower voltage.
There is a cap over the idle mixture screw that has to be removed so you can adjust the idle mixture once it's running and up to full temp.

Sorry for not responding, haven't had the chance to work on the Festiva for quite a while. My 89 Festiva doesn't have the AC so I don't have to worry about the throttle bump. It won't let me post any photos of the carburetor as they exceed the file size so I attached a link to a Google Doc with all of them. I've also got the EGR blocked off already with a custom block off plate. Any more help or insight into making sure I do everything right would be very helpful. Thanks.
