Dunno the bp might be spinning too fast or too slow maybe. I've went through a few bad alt's before. Maybe you just got bad one. It might be covered under a warranty or something use the bp alt. its a higher amp than the aspire one.

The regulator in the alternator keeps it from putting out too much voltage, when it is spun faster. When you say the alternator has gone bad, is not putting out high enough voltage, or is it putting it out too high? Did you put a new belt on the alternator when you did the swap? I know I did on one swap I did and then I thought the alternator went bad, but the belt stretched and then was loose. I have also had the alternator loosen up too. Make sure your belt isn't glazed. Do you have a large sound system or a lot of auxiliary lights? If not then you are not overtaxing your alternator. A smaller battery would actually be easier on the alternator as it would be easier to charge. Also when you install a new alternator, make sure battery is fully charged, as putting a heavy load on the alternator when it is breaking in new brushes can be hard on it.

What parts store are you using? That's poor customer service to void your warranty. Rarely is the warranty through the store, but rather through the company that rebuilds them. When I worked at an auto parts store, we had one brand that had a warranty return frequency of 27%. Bad quality products, they were.

Make sure you don't have any exposed positive wires. Check your positive wire running to your battery and make sure it is not getting grounded. If it grounds while the car is on, it could toast stuff fairly quickly. How/Where did you route the battery cables?
