  • Side Exhaust, what do you think?

I've been planing on running my new exhaust along the same path as the stock exhaust, just trying to get as many unnecessary bends out of it but still in the same area. Then one of my coworkers suggested i run it from the DP straight to where it goes over the rear axle, along the bottom of the floor plan. I wasn't much of a fan of that idea but it got me to thinking about running it in a direction other than stock, and it would be so easy to run it out from under the side of the body right in front of the rear pass tire.

I'm pretty sure it would be legal (anyone know?), and it would be supper easy and cheap to replace even the entire exhaust, and i'm not too worried about knocking it on the ground, because even if it hit it wouldn't do anything except ding up the end of the pipe.

i'm a little worried about it looking too weird and maybe sounding funny, this is where i'd like your opinion. I'd paint it black with high-temp paint so that it wouldn't stick out (i like my car to look relatively stock), but i stuck a piece of pipe there and it looks like it might look funny, any opinions? ideas?

This will be a spring break project (march 14)... its about time!

IMO duals are pointless, more labor, more money for what? Added weight and looks. My friend had his dumped at the front of the rear tire and it looked sick. I did it to my festiva, but i did it to myself and it didnt look as good as his. I'm going to redue mine that way again or dump it in the tunnel with a turn down tip. That way i won't need some custom j hook brackets to mount it by the p/s rocker.

i'm doing 2 1/8" and it will cost around $20 + $40 cat then when i sell my old cat i hope to get $80-$100, net cost is +$20-40. I like that kind of project!

thats how mine is run but it has no cat and just a cherry bomb in there. it is kinda loud but mainly when you get into it. i dont mind the noise at all and it doesnt look to bad either in my opinion. it has a hanger at the end also with the stock rubber piece and i have never had a problem with it hitting anywhere

Austy thats pretty much exactly what I'm planing on doing! except mine will have a high-flow stainless cat (required for inspection).

I'm going to re-use my 2" glass pack and position like you did. Thanks for the pics!

My entire exhaust (header back with muffler and cat) should cost < $90, and since i already made the DP and have the glasspack and cat it should be easy to finish it up this way, much easier than running it over the rear axle. If it turns out i don't like it I can always change it!

its obviously louder than stock but it wasnt loud enough to be annoying when driving. everybody's definition of quiet and loud is different but i loved it once i did it this way

if your going with origionallity, cut a hole in your hood and flip your exhaust manifold over...or cut your resinator out and put an inline muffler where the resinator went and immediatly follow that with a tip that curves to the ground. Gives plenty of sound and no one will know where it is coming from.
