  • Engine question, I think??

I've seen the following mentioned in several discussions here and would like to know the difference and how to tell which one I have?

I assume these are referring to engines: B3, B6 and BP??

If you have the OEM engine in your festiva you have a B3!
Or for that matter, in your Aspire, as you don't tell us what vehicle you have, it too is a B3.

B3 = Stock Festiva Engine, 1.3 Litre All US Festivas had the B3 stock. This article should explain the others. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_B_engine
      Oh, how I love Wikipedia!

          AirForceJeff,
No need to be sorry, just pointing out we had little to go on concerning your vehicle.
B3 = 1.3L displacement and are OEM to Festiva/Aspire(aka Brake swap)
B6 = 1.6L displacement engine found in various forms in Mazda's, Mercury's, others
BP = 1.8L displacement found in Mazda's, and Fords.

Think we have/had a write up from Rich Norman on the details of these and other engine swap candidates!

The B3 and B6 have an "ear" sticking out on the firewall side of the engine block right near the distributor that should have the size "B3" or "B6" stamped into it. That "ear" is part of the top of the engine block where it meets the head. I'm not sure what the BP may have stamped there - I never looked, but the front of the head should have the letters "BP" forged on the front between the spark plugs.
            You gonna race that thing?
