  • More B3 questions

How strong/stout are the B3's? Are they known as "built-proof"? or are the considerd pretty weak? I'm wanting to turn my car into a show car since its so nice, and i think that if i just throw a turbo on it, it will really make people talk, but i dont wanna do it if its just gonna blow the engine up. I wouldn't wanna boost more then a few pounds, if i was going for power i would just do an engine swap. But everything on my car is orignal except for the stereo and exhaust, and im hoping to hold onto the car for another 20 years or so. Tell me what u guys think. I can build a turbo kit for it really easy so im not worried about that part of it.

The B3 was not built for boost application, but that does not mean it can't handle boost. Just like any other motor that has been NA and then being converted to boost, it should be checked to make sure it is in good shape. The motor can handle boost for extended periods of time without a problem as long as the boost is not alot. If you kept around 5 psi, I don't see why you would have a problem. 10-15 psi, I would not expect the motor to last long at all in it's stock condition. The electronics are not designed for boost either, so that is another complication, but I believe the computer might be able to handle it if it is kept low.
