  • Jeffstiva gets a/c

I just finished up installing a/c on the Jeffstiva today. It wasn't as difficult as I thought it might be. It's a factory system I took off my black 92. It didn't have a belt so I really didn't know if it worked or had some other issues. But it's charged up and working now. The oddest thing was getting a belt for it. The belt NAPA said was the right fitment was way too small. So I asked for a larger one which was too big. As they say, "third time's a charm." The third one fits perfectly. The system runs quietly and cools quickly. Now I just need some real hot weather to see how well it can keep up.

Nice, how much did it cost you to set it all up? I might want to put A/C in mine if its not that expensive.

COOL ! I think I might try that this year. I have a good working a/c in Jerry that should be in Redford. Remember how you did it in case I need some advise.

              $700.00

Well maybe not quite. I bought a dented up 92 gl with a/c for $500 plus a $100 in gas for my Uncle to bring it up on a trailer. $55.00 for an R134 conversion kit at NAPA. $30.00 on a guage manifold for charging and a vacumm pump. (Actual cost of those was more, but I split it with my Dad and brother) $12.00 for a belt. Some o-rings, forgot how much.

The tools can be reused. The 92 gl still drives minus the a/c. I've still got a can of R134 with oil left over from the conversion kit and also some o-rings left. If it stays working, it'll be the best $$$ for upgrade feature on the car.

Actual cost of the upgrade in my case is less than $50.00 not counting time.

Sure thing. But I'm sure you'll do just fine. It's pretty easy.

i just put a new a/c belt on mine yay! took the old one off near winter to get better gas mileage and well it was looking pretty ragged so i didn't want it to break and cause any damage so i said heck with it and took it off...

Hmm.... so you used the wiring harness from the FI car on your carb car? It has a different harness, that's why I ask. If yours is working, maybe I *can* use that FI harness I have to install that 3rd syatem I have. Yhe carb harness has an *amplifier* built in to the harness that mounts by the evaporator box. This may be good news for Shtinky! He has missed his A/C since I stole it back for Red Car! Tell me how it does, and if you have any idle step up issues!

Actually, I took the system out of the 92 which is FI and put it in the 90 which is FI. So, I don't know about the carb wiring issues if there are any and/or what they might be. Sorry. :dontknow:

That's right, Jeffsteva is a 90. I don't know why I thought that I would get off that easy. Wishful thinking maybe?
