  • Motorswap... Please Help!!!!

Ok, I have an 89 Carbed LX Festy w/ a dead #4 Cylinder. I would love to go turbo Dual cam but no time for down time and fabricating. I would love to go Fuel Injected but I think if would be allot easier to keep it carbed. So, this being said... what are my engine choices?? I searched and didn't get the specific answer I need. Please advise! Thanks in advance... Roger

PS: I'm in L.A. and can get JDM Motor pretty easily and I have a resale license.

Like I said... I have no time for down time... I just want to put a better motor than what I got but not got through all the hassle of a dual CAM or fuel injection conversion. What are my choices w/ what I got?? A 89 Carbed Festy???

Right. You want the SOHC 8v from an 88-89 Mazda 323 (not sure of the corresponding Tracer engine). You want the 1st gen B6 so you can swap your intake manifold w/carb onto the B6. Check Wil's articles at the bottom of the forum - enourmously helpful!!!

                  http://projectmazda.com/festiva/b6 is the article link.

apparently if you buy any of the "variation 1" or "2" motors you can swap the intake manifold and all the other crap onto it including your carb.

I'm not 100% sure but thats what i've read on here in the past & a few ppl have carbed B6's with no issues.

just note that the variation 3 has a different cylinder head design so the studs, water ports and exhaust mani studs are located in differetn spots.

Hi! just put a B6 into my Festiva , came out of a 93 323 mazda I think, had 170K on it, got the ECU all for $100.00 cdn, used all stock 323 manifolds and injection, even converted the auto TB to accept stock manual Festiva TB.
Aspires and Sways all around, Miata B6 installed, KYB G2Rs just installed in front. Wish for coil overs someday.

I have basically the same question, sort of. I read this thread and others, but the project Mazda site has been down probably since I joined the forum. Which B6 can you bolt a carb onto? As far as I can tell from this site no carbed B6's where sold in the US? What car/model, year should I look for the JY?

My car is a 4sp carbed 89L. Is a Festiva 5 sp a straight bolt in?

                            Thanks

                              I'm interested too.

I also want to do the B6 swap but balk at the idea of having to switch over to EFI.

                              Regards,
