  • Need help with clucth and fly options

Well, I found a good motor to replace the tired one I got in the car. Just waiting to complete the deal. Hope to have her running right soon. I have moderate plans for this car. I'd like to use it for a daily driver. That's why I bought it, but I got raw end of the deal. The seller left alot of problems out of the ebay listing. Anyway, thanks to the forums here, looks like I'll be able to turn the deal around and get some good use out of the car. The car is an '89 carbed 5spd manual. I plan on keeping the carburettor for now because I have a water/alky injection kit designed for carbed cars. I intend to squeeze every ounce of fuel mileage the 1.3 has to offer, but I also want to bump up power a bit so I don't get flattened by semis and SUVs, and also to maybe humiliate my friend's Berretta Z26. I want to build a custom ram air system for it, and maybe tie that into a turbo later on. A larger exhaust should help too. I have a roller cam from an Aspire as well. All this brings me to my question, if I don't plan on racing the car much, if at all, and I'm just looking at keeping a well rounded daily driver, what type of clutch and fly should I use?

I bought one of the FMS lightened flywheels. You could shave 15 lbs off your stock one while you have it apart. I like it. Revs quicker.... that plus the cam, and if you could find an 89ATX dist it is a one year only deal that has 2 extra deg advanced timing curve. Oh, and 2 1/4 " exhaust cat back makes a difference. I used 2 1/2 not knowing 2 1/4 is optimum size.

Yeah, I was thinking of using an aluminum fly, but I wasn't sure if it'd turn out to be a bear in busy stop and go traffic where torque is needed most.

I've got a lightened flywheel on my BP with a stage 4 clutch... It can be driven in stop and go traffic just fine.

I'm also running with the FMS lightened flywheel mated to a B6 with 2 1/4" exhaust with no drivability issues....
