I'm not sure, but I think the bell housing bolt pattern is different.

Thanks. Now I can't get the idea of a six gear Festiva out of my mind.

From the little I've read, it IS possible, but I don't know yet if it's worth it.

Swapping bellhousing on our transmissions involves shimming certain items and there is no guarantee that would work. The first place to start looking would be the escort forum (www.feoa.net) and probably the mx-3 forum (mx-3.com). You could also check the mx-6 (mx6.com) and the ford probe forum (probetalk.com) but they would be using the V6 tranny which is a g-series but different bell housing than what we need.

the bellhousing is integral to the case half, so technically, it isn't removeable. The E, F, and G trans' don't share the same cases, so 'swapping bells' isn't feasible.

From what I can see, the G36 has alot of different issues that make it difficult to use. You may not need to swap bellhousings at all. There is a 6-speed that will bolt up. The problems then lie in the fact that the speedo is electronic, it uses a cable shifter, it has differently splined axles, and there was a couple other issues. It has been talked about at feoa.net (escort forum). No one there has bothered to try to swap it yet because of the work involved.

...and that is what I meant by "I don't know yet if it's worth it". The above list is enough to make me pass on this transmission. Much work (and $$$$$) for what? The (admittedly cool) right to say "I have a six speed"?

I read the same thing. If this is true, then the bell housing is definitely different.
