  • Moding the B3! Yea i said B3!

I still have the B3 motor in and i dont want to go threw the money or hassle of trying to find a put in a BPT motor. I went and ran a strait pipe to a Magnaflow N1 street muffler. I wana know if its possible to put a B6 Head on a B3 and if they made it possible to put of a high flow intake with out the VAF box? any suggestions on how to go would help too. Keep in mind i enjoy cars but im not a pro moder.

a BP is fairly simple to install and will probably give more power than a modded B3

        Just my 2 cents

Then you won't have the money to make any mods that will give more power. Free flowing exhaust, a cone filter and adjusting the timing will give you a few HP but not what you'd be looking for.

To really get more power out of a b3 expect to dump a pile of $ into it. A b6 is an easy swap and the best bang for the buck. The BP doubles the HP but does require more mechanical experience. You could dump a grand in a b3 and still will not have the power of the BP which could be had for a few hundred.

Tinker with what you have and learn how to do the repairs and simple mods yourself. In no time you'll be trying a b6 swap yourself.

I wonder what kind of mpg drop you can expect with a B6 or BP in comparison to a B3, stock for stock.

It would be just as quick to pull the whole B3 and drop in a whole B6 than to replace heads. jy motor... 200 ish? What's a decent head gasket worth? 50$? that and the head and your close to the price of a B6... and you'll actually get some results. not a pro? swapping complete motors would take less skill than pulling apart a motor... seriously

And do some research on your hi-flow exhaust... B3s.. like there back pressure.

Just sit down and read everything you can on swaps... read read read... look at all the pics you can..... you can pull it off. Before i came to this site I knew little about cars... now i've replaced just about everything but the shell on my car... and i have a rebuilt B6 sitting in my basement, waiting for me to have a long weekend to get it in.

^ I think you even replaced some of the shell.

Stefans not lying. Look over his posts. He came here not knowing much about cars and now is becoming a leading authority on Festiva's. Start small and you too can be like him.

x2 on what stefan said, it's easier to do a B6 swap than to swap heads. If you don't think your capable of doing a B6 swap, i wouldn't expect you to be able to swap a B6 head onto a B3 block.
do some more minor mods and repairs, and read a lot... and then decide if you want to do anything! Even with the B6 swap, i'm looking for a BP now. I figure i gained about 30 hp with the B6 swap, and if your lucky you may see 10hp with a head swap, so swapping heads would be a waste of effort as far as getting HP gains goes.

                    but thats just my .02

Listen to all the good advice you've been given!

A B6 puts you 19 hp ahead from the get-go. You'd be working like mad or paying big bucks to some one who knows what he's doing to get that kind of power out of a B3. Either way you either have an engine swap to pull, or a B3 to pull apart.

I did a B6 engine swap and it wasn't too hard. I may do another before I pull an engine apart for a rebuild and some internal mods (on a B6). When you do a swap, replace the timing belt, water pump and most of the seals and you'll then have a nice trouble-free engine for a good while.

Step One: Read, read, read. Ask questions.

Step Two: Get a shop and a Haynes manuals. Do all or most of your own service and repair work. Learn your car!

Step Three: When you've learned your car, pick a major project (like an engine or suspension swap), read all you can about it, and then do it.

How awful does a b6 run with a b3 computer? If you use the b6 injectors you wont lean out but does it stumble around town? Im thinking of getting a b6 and putting it into the aspire, being mass air it should compensate a little better (in theory).

If youre at the JY pulling the engine and harness, you might as well take the time and get the ECU as well. Everything Ive read here makes it almost seem like night and day in terms of performance. Just make sure its the B61K ECU.
