  • FMS cam specs

I just bought FMS's competition cam on EBay last week and there was no cam card enclosed. I called them and was told there should have been a spec card with it. I asked if the stock springs will work and they said "some will and some won't". I asked what the valve timing events and recommended spring pressures were and if they had any recommended after market springs that would fit and was told they would have to get back to me. They took my email address to send me the info but it's been over a week and no response. I guess I was talking to the wrong person.

Does anyone have this cam and did you get a cam card with it?

Not that the specs really matter I guess. After all, I'm building a mild B6 and not a 347 stroker.
And as near as I can tell, we basically have 3 choices: A) FMS comp cam, B) FMS race cam or C) Go out and have a custom regrind. I really would like to know the manufacturer recommended valve spring pressure since it can make a huge difference in performance. I also want the timing events so I can experiment on Desktop Dyno with adv/ret on the cam.

I remember on FMS's old site they had articles on project cars. One was a B6 carbed build-up. If I remember, they used an after market cam and valve springs from a VW or something.
I am also looking for any flow numbers on a SOHC B6 head.

If I find any of this info I will post it for all.

ok, i have that cam and here's what i know.........

it's cast steel, you WILL NOT get a card with it, the springs that FMS speaks of are from VW and ground to fit.

Do NOT get the springs (too agressive), but i do recomend an upgrade to a beehive design (i'll give you a pt# as soon as i know). really, the cam is good, but only comes on at about 4K and then you smack the rev limiter pretty quick. look into removing the limiter (i'm assuming you're FI).
