  • Other Automatic Transmissions?

    Hi!

Has anyone worked on the Idea of other Auto transmissions for our cars. I like the 5 speed Manual in the festy, But would realy like an auto with overdrive for the Aspire. Any Ideas?

I was looking for an auto from a Capri. It would require some wiring for the electronic OD but it would fit in the car with the Capri axels.

Over here in Aus late WF festivas (aspires) had 4 speed autos in the 1.5 lt, electronically controlled so you would need to do a bit of wiring. I would think shipping would be a killer though.

I'm not sure if the Escort would fit or not (it should). But I was thinking Capri because we know that with the Capri G25MR trans the Capri axels are the correct width. So the Capri 4 speed auto with the Capri axels shoud fit in the car and Use the Capri ECU to control the trans only.

thi might be worth lookin into,...as i have one now,...mmmm. I think it would be quite a bit better than the festy/aspire unit.

I belive i posted a q about this once befor and was told it would not fit.....due to real estate constraints,...

any help on clairifing this would be greatly appriciated,...

Escort GT and Capri should both use the 4EAT (can't remember if it's the F or G type). Escort GT also uses a separate TCM (Transmission Control Module). Not really sure if the 4EAT will fit, which is why I was asking for info about the Aussie trans.

Would the capri axles be too short in an Aspire? Isn't there an inch difference betwen the Festiva an Aspire?

The capri axles would be too short in an aspire. I have not heard of a working tranny swap in an aspire, manual or automatic.

On a side note, why not use the auto tranny out of a early 323, like 1989? The axles will work in our cars. I would think, though, that this auto is similar to the capri tranny.

Were these four speed autos? If not, then that's why.

If you want a lower final drive, then go with the Aspire autos, which also have a lockup TC.

Here is a previous discussion about swapping the auto tranny. Good info in there.

                            Great Info!
Thanks for the foot work on that!
Does anyone know if Festyboy managed to do the swap. My aplication is for the Aspire also. Would be very nice to have a road gear for 65 as these were probably originally built for the 55 speed limit.
                            I'll PM FestyBoy.

thats just what i was about to post!!!! :p

no, i havn't done the swap as i havn't found a suitable canidate for the donor. 1.6 auto mx3s are hard to find.
once i find one (that isn't insanely priced), i have a B3 i'll be building to go with it and do the swap.
