It could be done but the SRT-4 intercooler is only one part of the system. You would have to fabricate the rest of the turbo system yourself there is no bolt on system.

Can a carb be turbocharged without enclosing the entire carb? Or can it be done at all?
There were several attempts in the past at supercharging carbureted engines. Studebaker the most well known. And there were those Judson aftermarket superchargers for MGs and the like. I can't recall hearing carb plus turbo. Just curious.

TONS of turbo/carb cars around. Early 80's Buick GNXs, Escort GTs and Lynx LN7s... www.fordsix.com has several 200, 250 and 300ci Ford inline 6's running carbs with turbos. Does10's has a Falcon that, well, does 10's in the 1/4mile. If the carb is modified correctly, as well as the fuel pump, it will not need a pressurized enclosure.

FB71. Thanks for all the info. I had no idea the set-up was so common. Re the Escorts & Lynx. I was under the impression that they had TBI. Synapses were napping I guess.

TBI/CFI started in late '84. '81, '82 and early '83 had the turbo option, but with a carb. Late '83 the turbo went away, but the GTs and LN7s got MPI.

There are aot of corolla (3TC Hemi motor) and datsun (L-series motors) owners that have carb/turbo setup. Just mount the carb right on the inlet of the turbo.

Isn't the srt-4's turbo and manfiold all one piece? I think the manifold and turbo are cast together. It isn't like a standard turbo that bolts to the manifold.

that's a suck-thru system like the late 70's early 80's Pontiacs and Buicks. Not adviseable to use an intercooler with that setup (fuel condenses in the intercooler). Most setup are blow-thru, with the carb after the turbo. Much more efficient and safer.
