  • Carb upgrade question

Tried a search and didn't find anything.

Has anyone ever changed out the stock carb to something else?
    If yes what carb?

I was thinking about a weber.

I know on my small ford 6 cyl's it makes a huge difference in power, mileage and driveablility.

I know b6, b6t upgrade etc.... not ready for that yet

Found that but it ends with the same question I have.

I thought about the bike carb idea, we used to run the kawasaki 1100 carbs on a pinto powered sandrail.

I dont know if they sell an adapter plate to run a Weber on a Festiva. I sure we could make one. I dont think it would be that hard maybe we could make a bunch and sell them!

Thanks Festy46, some more info to think about.

Either way, adapter or modify I think would be about the same amount of work.

It's fairly easy to do. Remove the original carb studs and lay the new carb's gasket on top of the intake to use as a template. Figure out which original holes have to be filled in with aluminium welding rod and a couple of the outside corners also. Clean up the mating surface for the carb with a milling machine or if you were careful, you may be able to do it with a file. Again use the carb gasket for a template and re-drill and tap the new mounting holes. Use a die grinder to remove any metal that extends out into the carb throat holes. If I remember correctly, I think only the manifold for the B6-ME needed to have a die grinder used. I don't think I had to do any grinding on the B3.
