  • more power!!

hi just bought a festiva the other week and i am just wondering if you guys know any ways of getting just a hp or 2 out of the engine without really doing much? ive serviced it and ran some carby cleaner and that seemed to help a bit but thats just bringing it back to more what its ment to be.

for what your looking for do the obvious stuff switching to a high flow air filter or complete cold air intake, as well as a free flowing exhaust should getyou what you want.
if you are looking for a bit more check out festivamotorsports.com
they sell alot for our cars and if you give em a call you would be suprised what they have that they dont post on there site.

Air filters and exhaust really wont get you that much. You'll be lucky to see 1hp off of both. Air filters can be blocked off up to 80% and still allow enough air flow. They were designed to be larger than needed in the first place. As far as exhaust be careful you don't put to much air flow there. If you move to a 3inch pipe or something that is too large you'll loose the back pressure and then burn exhaust valves. Your best best is cams and a fly wheel. I light weight flywheel will increase your torque output to the trans and allow for faster acceleration. The cam can change your timing for more top end performance. Don't be fooled by false promises from cold air intake companies. Do a dyno if you can and test everything.

Probably the easiest and cheapest thing to do would be to drop in a early B6 SOHC (88-89 mazda 323) basically a direct swap and i believe it has about 20 more HP

BTW is your car carb'd or EFI?

            1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
            1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

lighter flywheels DON'T increase torque, ever. they just allow the engine to spin up more quickly do to less rotational mass. they can be a detriment in a daily driver while cruising because the lack of inertia can cause poorer idle quality and loss of speed up short hills where normaly you wouldn't need to add gas.

Here are a couple mods that will give you a little more zip. Aspire roller rocker arms, exhaust mani ( Weld the outside of the tubing to the flange then open the inside of the ports). open the air box up

                      That will help, Will

aspire roller rocker arms = NO (tried it, and though it DOES give more power, it can destroy your stock cam) that combo worked well for me for about 5000 miles with no discernable wear, but there's no telling when the hardened surface of the cast lobes will wear away and then destroy the lobe. if you're going to use the aspire rockers, use the cam as well and have the base circle cut down .050".

FestY I have been running the set up that I posted for over 13,000 miles without any problems with it. I have noticed a little more bottom end and pulls harder to 5k. Just so you know this is the stock engine with over 200k on it I must also add that the cat has been cleared and 2.5" exhaust cat back. Don't get me wrong these not massive power mods but in my experience they work well for a little more pep and makes those freeway on ramps less daunting.

^^ i've used the aspire rocker arms as well and with a festiva cam it will chew it up. period. It's not designed for it.
