  • G25MR weight

    Howzit going guys,

Does anyone know the weight of one of these G25MR(capri xr2) trannys, also both axles? I've been looking for these items locally here in Hawaii, but they are next to impossible to find here. I think I'll have better luck looking for these on the mainland(US48). We have mainland shippers such as DHX, Honolulu Freight, ShipTo Hawaii that are not too bad cost wise.

Just need the weight to figuire out approx. the freight cost.

    Thanks in advance!!!!!!

    Like this one?

IIRC My Bp & g25mr weighed in at 525lb. So i dont think they would weigh in at more than 125lbs for the whole deal. The axles themselves weigh 36.5lbs according to my bathroom scale. My extra trans are @ the inlaws so I cant just walk in the other room to weigh them. Mazda transmissions are pretty petite so, i wouldnt think it would be that much to ship UPS. I shipped a DSM AWD trans & transfercase via UPS twice. That trans was way beefier than our little trans. Hope this helps a little.

      Muscle-

ha! ha! ha! Yes, just like that one!!!!! Funny, I've had my eyes on that one for sometime, just couldn't get the shipping thing together.

As I posted this, just received an email from the seller also confirming the 125lbs. for the trans. I went ahead and bought it, took advantage of the 15% discount ebay coupon. So, got paid just $297. for the whole package! Included but not pictured in the listing, he is throwing in the mod. capri shifter linkage, cradle. Next, gotta figuire out the Ocean freight with DHX, should'nt be more than a couple hundred bucks(Folsum, Ca. to Oakland to Honolulu) I am pretty stoked about this even though I am having to piece together my BP/G-xmsn for the swap.

BTW, talked to the seller on the phone today(tue) turns out he was a member here sometime ago(Steve Wales) Seems like a really nice guy.

On a last note, no flywheel included. If I remember correctly, I would need a flywheel from that same xmsn. ....is that correct???? Or Would I be able to use one from any G model?

      Thanks BIG time Muscle! ....renny

You can use any flywheel that is from any G-series transmission. What is a xmsn?

That I am unsure of. You might have to use a starter that matches the flywheel, ie escort gt flywheel and starter. The outside casings of the different G-series trannies is the same for 4-cyl, and I don't believe there was difference in the diameter of the flywheels between different motors, but there might have been. The escort and the capri had slightly different flywheels but they both had 112 teeth. Starters were also slightly different between the two, but I doubt it was anything major.

Thanks Noname, appreciate the info, that's a big help trying to piece this thing together. So, if I understand this correctly, I can use any G-series flywheel, the clutch set would then also have to match what ever application the flywheel came from????

"What is a Xmsn?" It's just an abreviation for transmission I picked up while in the Army. The text books/manuals that we used in the hangers(Helicopters) would abrev. transmissions as such.

                Take care & aloha!

I will make a correction to my statement. You can't use the V6 flywheel, only because it is held on by 8 bolts while the 4-cyl flywheels are held on by 6 bolts. I believe the biggest clutch you can use comes from the probe GT. It has the same spline count but with a slightly larger surface area. If you need a flywheel, you might be able to find an aftermarket miata flywheel for cheap.
