  • Another F-Series Transmission Swap Question

I've been reading up on various transmission swaps and I'm confused about some of the things I've read.

When replacing axles in a Festiva, you're supposed to use Festy axles because the Aspire ones are too long.

Festiva axles have a combined length of 58.5"

Aspire axles have a combined length of 58.9375"

You can use Aspire axles IF you also use Aspire LCA's, but then you gain camber.

When swapping in an F-series transmission, you use '86 to '89 323 or '90 to '94 N/A Capri axles.

323 and Capri axles have a combined length of 59"

From what I can find out, you use Festiva LCA's with the swap.

What is it about the F-series transmission that lets you get away with 1/2" extra axle length?

The axles are 1/16" longer than the "too long" Aspire ones.

    Anyone know?

When i used an F trans i used the 323 axles with festiva LCA's with no issues at all

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

They have different transmissions they are going into and have different stub lengths going into the transmissions. Axle lengths are not all that is involved with the swap. It could also be the other end of the axle where the nut screws on. They could have added a quarter of inch thread to each axle. Axle lengths are only designed to give you a rough idea and to ensure you have the right axle.

I figured it was something like that. Thought I'd ask anyway.

            hey,

Just have a quick question in regards to axles, while were on the subject...

If i'm doing a capri swap and am wanting to know what axles/combination of axles would be the best to use.

Would it be the capri axles, the festiva axles, or a combination of both?

I'm not sure, so don't take what I say as the absolute truth.

Aspire LCAs are used with Festy axles for that swap (I was going to do this before I went to Rio brakes).

Best bet would be to PM FestYboy. He has done the swap before and I think it's his current setup.
