How to read mazda manual transmission codes

First letter:
E = 18 spline input shaft
F = 20 spline input shaft
G = 22 spline input shaft
H = 23 spline input shaft

First digit:
Production revision (1 or no digit, 2 or 3)

4 = 4 Gears
5 = 5 Gears
6 = 6 Gears

M = Manual

R = Remote Shift Control

X = AWD

F5MR is first generation, F25MR is second generation. I think it was mostly minor changes.
