  • 1.3 Header flange interest/suggestions?

I have been toying with having some header flanges cut for the stock 1.3 engine. These will be just the flange that bolts to the head.

Curious as to if there was any interest?

Any suggestions as to types of material, thickness etc....??

I am thinking of just 1/4" thick steel to start out with, I am looking at playing with different lengths of headers.

I had one water jet cut a few years back. 3/8" stainless steel. I would do 3/8" only because it will be less prone to warp with engine heat. I sold mine to a forum member here i think. I have a friend out in cali who does it, but now we have a member here who has a cnc plasma table....quaddawg.

I need a B3 header flange for the race car. I cant do an engine swap in that car and stay in the class Im running. I need to get as much performance out of the b3 as possable and a header for it will help. Having a few so we can play with different lengths would be cool too. Those of us that dont want to do a swap would be interested Im sure. I bet it would help out in a carbed car too.

Im in! When are you going to start cutting them?

I think 1/4" black iron is fine, but if I had the choice I'd go 3/8" . Is there anyone interested in a long tube header that's been engineered for the stock 1.3? I have a buddy who builds them upon request.

Weirtech will make you any flange and cheap! he does them in 3/8 mild but can do what ever you want. he just scans the gasket into his water jet and wala. I was told by Neukin that mild is the best to use for the exhaust flange because they are able to shrink and expand better with tempertaure changes unlike the stainless. i guess the stainless wont move and it will end up causing cracking or warping. what ever the case is i got a lifetime warranty on mine!

The problem is that stainless has a high coeffecient of thermal expansion...

              header flange

I had a couple burned a few months ago at a local metal place, but I had mine out of 1/2 inch material since I was fabing a turbo header.I would think 1/4 would be good for just going the header route.

3/8" for the stainless, even then you have to do relief cuts between cyl. 1+2 and then again between 3+4. And as you move away from the center bolt holes they have to be made progressively larger. Mild steel is less tempermental.
