  • Exhaust Muffler? Tip? help!

    hey there

i have a 1993 festiva 4dr (Australia) and im looking to give it a nicer tone. for fun i cut a hole in the bottom of i milo can and slid it on the exhaust nice sound but its just silly.

should i get a new sports muffler/cannon (say 3-4in) and bolt or weld it on, or should i just get an exhaust tip and hopefully just bolt that on?

would there be much of a significant power gain with the new muffler?

    how about sound?

P.S does anyone know the size of the exhaust system tubing exactly?

and a website for stuff to suit my festy? i cant find much other than American

stock size is 1.5 inches. getting a less restrictive muffler will change the sound but for power it probably wouldn't be noticeable. There is no reason to upgrade to a larger diameter pipe (say 1.75 or 2 inches) for these small 1.3 liter engines, unless you are going to upgrade engines.

also, there are fellow aussies on here, please add your profile..

      Thanks I'll check them out

is that size the same for the australian model?

EDIT: also, i dont want to spend too much money, festivamotorsports exhaust system is close to $300. i just want something better looking and a more aggressive sound

What is the state of the aftermarket industry in Oz? Can't find stuff there, in a parts store or online and in-country? Seems like gearheads are in every country. Once when I was in Yugoslavia, I saw a guy with a souped-up Fiat 600, tearing around Belgrade! :-)

Moding cars is pretty massive in Aus. Only problem is, the festiva isnt as sought after as a moding mennace.
I'm also having trouble finding rims that will fit seems to me the festiva/pride is a lot more popular for enthusiasts overseas.

Anyone have ideas for me? even for wheels?

I take it you have looked at this list, to see what's compatible:
Discuss improvements to your Festiva or Aspire in the handling, braking, wheels and tires areas.

Hard to believe there is no business in Oz offering a 13" or 14" wheel in the 4x114.3mm bolt pattern. Otherwise, consider doing the Aspire brake swap (I think you still call them Festivas there?), to get the more common 4x100mm bolt pattern (and easier brake rotor removal).

The last resort would be wheel adapters, but you shouldn't have to go this far. Good luck.

I have had really good luck using stainless steel resonators 18" long, and clamping a flange adapter to the inlet side so it stays a bolt up front to back exhaust system. Using stainless hardware, even with the rust problems where I live, I can easily repair or replace any part as needed with minimum effort. I also use the cut off bracket hanger off an original muffler to hang the resonator from the stock rubber mounts (second picture)
The exhaust tone reminds me of the old British sports cars I grew up around in the 60s&70 For a queiter tone, a Turbo (reverse flow) muffler can be used, but you will replace them more often they being aluminized mild steel, and having the water produced by a Catalylic converter eating at it. You do have Cats there I assume?

Hi where in oz you from? Just had a exhaust fitted to my 96 model has a sweet note to it now. Looking at rims myself have found quiet a few with the stud pattern but not sure on how to go about the wheel nut / wheel stud setup seems to be plenty of 13 14 15 & 16 inch rims with the right PCD

I'm in Tas. Does my festiva (WA 1993) havea unique bolt/stud pattern? websites like bobjane and that have little search engines which look for wheels on their site to fit your car. i cant find any for mine, and i dont know the pattern size!

Mufflers, hmm what exactly are you chasing here, If it's tips, stock is roughly 1" 1.5", Can support a 2"-2.5", 3" (with a custom made sleeve) or is it headers and extractors?

or wheel patterns? That is what you're chasing isnt it? 4x 100mm, Pretty standard stuff. you can find more info right here.

you're right, it was originally about mufflers, but i thought i'd have a stab at wheels just incase someone had some info handy.

I'm thinking of buying a Cherry Bomb Glasspack now

Hey buddy i know what you mean about the festiva phenomenon being bigger over in the US. I live in queensland AUS and Ive got a 3 dr 1.3 litre 1993 ford festiva which i went down to supercheap and bought a 90 dollar cannon for and a 89 dollar arc welder from bunnings and welded on the cannon to the stock 1.5 inch pipes. And im not going to lie its sound pretty sweet especially once its started to heat up. But im currently in the process of replacing the stock pipes from the cat back to the tip with 2.25 inch pipes or ausy si units 57.15mm. Want to make it look my professional and buy a mig welder too bad theyre 300 dollars.
