I've been looking at doing an awd swap for a long time. There a a few problems. GTX trannies suck. They're almost as bad as talon trannies. However, there was a beefier GTR transmission in the rally cars. A crucial difference was the final drive ratio, or so I thought. Through a bunch of research, I had come to believe that gtx trannies were 3.909 and GTR trannies were 4.1. It is ridiculous finding that second ratio. 3.909's came in newer miatas and older rx-7s, although I'm not 100% on the years. i finally tracked down a used GTR rear dif on corksport, of all places, only to find out that it wasn't there. However, I talked to a tech on that site who said he'd been running a GTR tranny in his GTX with the stock rear end for a few years! He said the differences I found may have been from the MAZDASPEED trannies. It is completely possible. I think I've done all I can from a research standpoint, I actually have to find an AWD tranny with a bp and get it mounted up. I'm hoping I can use either shortened front gtx axles, or possibly a hybrid or the xr2 and gtx axles, so I can run the XR2 spindles and rotors. As for bolting the rear end in, I Think there'll be a fair amount of welding. Never know till you try though!
Of course the red makes it go faster..

If you use the AWD tranny you can use the 88-89 GTX axles with either the stock hubs or the XR2 hubs

what about the rear end out of a miata? would that be close to the ratio you need or am i way off?
