  • auto to manual choke swap?

i know that the auto choke is allot better than a manual, but mine is not working properly and i don't have another choke setup to use. so i got this manual setup from advance auto parts for 11 bucks and want to see if i can change it over to see if it will work out better for me. also i was curious if their has any one else has done this?

I haven't done it to the Festiva carb, but I have done it to other carbs. You will need to fabricate a bracket to hold the cable housing on or near the carb to keep it from moving when you push and pull on the control knob. Make sure you attach it to the correct side of the carb so when you pull on the knob it chokes and when you push it takes the choke off. If your choke kit didn't come with them, get a couple adjustment clamps. They are about the size of a pencil eraser with a hole drilled through the side for the cable and a clamping screw threaded into the end. Once you get it installed, you will need to experiment with opening the choke. When you first crank the engine (when it is cold) pull the choke on all the way. As soon as the engine fires, push the choke knob in a little bit so you don't flood it. Then listen to the sound of the engine and keep moving the choke knob to keep it running as smoothly as possible. The thing you will need to remember is to take the choke off completely when the engine is hot. The engine will run smoothly with the choke about half way on and it is easy to forget to take it off completely, but your gas mileage will tell you that you didn't take the choke off.
    You gonna race that thing?
