  • weber manifold adapters

If I remember correctly nobody had dealt with Pierce manifolds and their weber carburetor adapter. Well, in short they do NOT fit our cars. The bolt holes are about 1/2" off on the side farthest from the engine. I plan to modify mine to work, but just to forewarn everybody else that is thinking about doing the conversion, its not a bolt and go type thing. It is gonna involve drilling new holes. also the hardware they ship with it is too small, So even if it did line up, the hardware is too small for the threads in the manifold. I will get pictures sometime soon.

Its also about 58 dollars after shipping.

Thanks for the tip. I guess you are the pioneer for this project. Let us know how big a job it is to modify the adaptor.

It shouldnt be too bad. Gotta get new hardware first, then a drill bit and tap set for that size. plug off the old holes on top of that. If there *is* any issues I'll slather some JB weld around to help it out.

I don't bother with carb adapters. I take my intakes to a welding/machine shop and have certain areas of the intake built up with weld and then machined and drilled and re-tapped to fit the Ford/Weber carb. Here are a couple pictures of one that was converted to a Weber bolt pattern. This intake is from an AU Ford Laser, but the original carb bolt pattern is the same as the Festiva. The first picture shows the intake after being welded and re-tapped. The second shows the Weber carb gasket installed. The Laser manifold needed to have a little gasket matching grinding done to the intake, but if I remember correctly none was needed on the Festy intake. Here is a link to the carb installed: http://users.isp.com/john48/Carbconver2.jpg

So how much would you charge to have the manifold redone to fit the 32/36 weber. Since your machine shop has done a few for you

Do the outside cylinders get less fuel or does it run ok?

I called the guy and he said he couldn't remember exactly what he had done without seeing the manifold to quote a price. He said if I could send him a picture to re-fresh his memory, he would quote a price. He is a partial sponsor of our race team and his advertisement is the third one listed on our web site listed below - The Job Shop.

I sent him the picture and as soon as he gets back to me, I'll let you know. If you want me to take the manifold to him, I can. I won't charge you anything as long as you pay the shipping both ways, or you can ship it directly to him.

If you are referring to the pictures of the manifold I posted, it runs fine. Nothing about the runner configuration was changed. The only thing that was changed was the stud location and the installation of a much better carb. I use the Ford Escort carb which you can buy on eBay a lot cheaper than the true Weber even though the Escort carb has "Weber" embossed on the carb housing. You need to plug some extra vacuum lines and chop off the end of the idle shut down valve on the Escort carb to make it like the true Weber carb.

If it is just a matter of drilling new holes after the others are plugged up then I have a product at work but have seen it in auto parts stores also. It is called Propoxy...not sure what the name is elsewhere....it is a 2 part putty that you mix together to a uniform color and then apply it to the holes or cracks...then when it hardens it can be tapped and whatnot. I know someone that used it to fix a cracked engine block with out any issue.
