  • 1.3L Aspire engine swappable into '88 Festiva LX?

I did a brief search and didn't really find anything. I was wondering if it is possible to just swap in an Aspire 1.3L engine into an '88 Festiva LX? If anything gets overly complicated such as fabricating custom engine mounts, lemme know. I'm looking for a direct swap. Fingers crossed.

Please get back to me, guys.

You'll need a 93' festiva crank pulley since it has a large nose crank, and swap the intake/exhaust manifolds from the festiva engine onto the aspire engine, no custom mounts needed.
-93' L BP swap/e-series, coilovers, RIO front swap, redrilled festy drums, Miata 14" 7 spokes.
-88' Mazda 323 SE, work in progress..
      -85' Nissan Sentra 5 spd.

Can't really do anything intricate with the tools and knowledge that are at my disposal.

Okay, cool. That's great, thanks. Are these hard to come by? Expensive? etc

You will need the wiring harness, computer, etc. The '88 is carbed, so I am not sure if the intake can just be "swapped" over. There are plenty of people on here that have converted carbed to EFI, so I will let them chime in on this. Good luck with your swap, and welcome to FF.com!

Sounds like things could get a tad complicated, haha. Some more research will have to be done, assuming my father and I decide to go through with it. I appreciate you helping point us in the right direction.

            Thanks doylerl

He can keep it carbed if he wants, the manifolds can be swapped over like I said.

                What is your location?

Any reason you wouldn't swap in another carb engine?

This is true... I was assuming he wanted to make it EFI. My assumption may be wrong.

I live up in Washington State.

The only reason we have decided to possibly go forward with this conversion is that we might be able to get a really good deal on the motor. My Festiva motor has an oil leak, so it'd be worth it to swap out based on the deal. I guess the other motor also seems to have lower mileage too.

Some of the other specifics as far as EFI and the manifold, I have no idea lol. I assume we would try and leave whatever is on the other motor mostly in tact.

The head and block is the same for any year festivas, i beleive even aspire head and blocks are the same, the differences are in the intakes and exhaust manifolds so to keep your car car'b buy a good engine and re-use your intake and exhaust manifolds and you should be good to go

But if you buy an EFI engine and plan to put it in a car'b car, on the EFI engine there will be a block off plate to cover the hole where the mechanical fuel pump goes, but the lobes on the cam shaft that drives the mechanical fuel pump will be there even on a EFI engine

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

A little update on the engine itself: It seems to be an EFI engine. So far from what I've gathered is we'll need the crank pulley from a '93 Festiva, the wiring harness from the Aspire, and the ECU that goes to the engine.. Going off of what Damkid said, I believe he means that we'll need a way to drive the mechanical fuel pump..?

I'm not quite sure. What exactly am I missing, and what would need to be done to make this successful?

I replied to the thread on fordaspire.com you should be able to swap everything over from the festiva engine minus the crank pulley

you just need the external stuff from your engine, swap it all onto the aspire engine, and then grab a 93 crank pulley and you will be all set.

Oh okay. That sounds easy enough, haha. And this is true for the EFI engines as well? Just to clarify. Would you also happen to have a link to that thread?
