  • Different Battery Tray?

Has anyone ever tried swapping out the OEM battery tray for a metal one? If so does anybody know a car to pull one off of that would fit? The reason for asking is mine is shot and doing a quick search shows that this is not a totally uncommon problem and I have always been partial to metal ones instead of plastic or fiberglass (or whatever this crazy glass stuff is).

    Thanks in advance!

if you still have your fiberglass one...just figure out where the holes are to bolt it on, and make your own metal one.

I've got a mint stock one. It's yours if you want it just pay shipping. Or if you'd like I could make a metal one, but after March 22nd.

Or you could relocate to a bat box in the cargo area

^^ Battery box - it's a plastic or metal box with a lid that's used when you relocate the battery to the interior area of the car. It's used to contain any leaks or fumes from the battery.

If a hammer doesn't fix it you have an electrical problem

^^ It could be done!! Nothing a plasma cutter, some sheet metal, and a welder won't fix

^^ Hehehehe...ya, I was contemplating the design in my head too to right after I posted that up

I was like "hmmmmm, actually....that would be a pretty good way to relocate the battery and still have all the cargo room. A hidden battery box! I like that idea!"

Some HotRod guys do that, they mount the battery box's flush with the trunk floor.

I know I've seen this tried before on here...I believe it was skeeters_keeper and someone else. IIRC it wouldn't work...the pics are floating around here somewhere
Edit: Here's the thread I was thinking of..

It was FB71 that had the pics and Skeeters_keeper that had also tried it with Paul

^^ I think we're talking about doing it in the rear of the car. Like the area where I'll be relocating your muffler to would be a good place to try this

It's unused space and about the right size to drop a small battery in if you fab'd a small box into the floor pan.

Oh, ok. Gotcha! Might have to throw that in my mix as well!

You'd have plenty of room since the muffler is going to the other side. You could mount a full size battery in that space
