  • Aspire radiator into a festy?

There was some nice photos and information of this on the FMS site.....those are not available anymore.
They had an aspire radiator in a festy, after an engine swap.

So I ask of the festy hordes.

Does it matter if the radiator from the Assfire is a Manual or automatic ?

I am thinking the auto is probably thicker; header clearance might be an issue.
Like my chevy truck, the auto-radiator prolly has an extra cooling connections for the transmission.
But what would prevent plumbing the engine oil into that auto transmission cooling loop and having some extra cooling for my B6...?

I purchased an Aspire rad at the junkyard and now have to figure out how to install it. It is about 3/4" higher than the Festiva rad. What did you do? turn the upper mount brackets upside down? smaller rubber mounts?

i copied that FMS article way back when and just reread it to answer your question. there is no mention of lowering the brackets or the aspire rad being taller. the only thing they say is that the aspire rad is longer and that they drilled out the spot welds on one of the brackets and moved it over to match the aspire mounting dowel. so i take a quick look under my festy and i think u might be able to lower them about 3/4" and still have the meatier part of the bracket still able to be rescrewed to the crossmember. all in all the brackets are just basically a stiffened piece of angle with a hole for the bushing. u could probably make your own out of some heavier guage sheet metal bent into a z shape to give u the height u need and screwed to the bottom of the crossmember.
