  • b3 turbo q's

so i have been on this site for a while and i am on my second festy now. I realize that i will net more horse power by doing an engine swap and turboing it but i am waiting for a b6t parts car so its going to be awhile. In the mean time i would like to turbo my b3 but i have had trouble finding info on it, how much hp am i looking at, at around 8psi? are 323 injectors going to be good? And i am going to the junk yard this weekend to get a aspire header and looking at turbos, what car should i get the turbo off of? there a alot of volvos in there and a turbo probe and firefly and a couple of dodges and a tbird. which one will be best sutied for the b3? i am leaning towards the probe. if anyone can shed some light on this before i go into the jy that would be great.

I used a MX6 gt turbo (same thing as probe gt) Its a IHI VJ-11 and it performed well on the b3 at 8-10 psi. It spooled quickly and felt good all the way to redline. I used an aspire manifold and welded on a turbo flange. I kept the stock injectors and installed a walbro 255lph HP and 12:1 fmu. It kept afr's at about 12.75 till redline on 8psi. I also had a MSD BTM but you could retard your base timing for free just to lose some low end. Turbocharging the B3 is a great way to get into turbos and makes for an awesome fun ride. I want to turbo a b3 again. I drive a bp-t daily and I think I would be happy if I had to go to a b3t again.

Would you two rather turbo an early b6 vs another b3 if you had one? Or do you like the b3's just because you have them already? I was going to turbo a b6 but installed it into an auto festy to clear a personal debt. Now trying to buy the car off him casually LoL

Fuel management unit, it's like a secondary fuel pressure regulator that only effects fuel pressure when under boost.

Thanks, that's what I thought. Would it have some kind of sensor hooked into the turbo plumbing then?

Just a vaccuum hose. It has a diaphram inside that when pressurized "chokes" off the fuel return line, raising pressure in the fuel rail. That makes the injectors squirt more fuel when they pulse.

do you think its worth it for me to run the setup on b3 and b6 injectors and see what the afr's are before i order a fmu? Its going to take a bit to order one and if i can save 100 with jy b6 injectors i would totally do it.

You can find an fmu on ebay for about $65 shipped. It keeps your fuel linear with your boost. I would reccomend that before bigger injectors. They will be too rich off boost and at idle. This is just my experience and opinion tho.

Here is an old video (the only one I know of) of my b3t setup. I blew a head gasket a few weeks after this video. (forgot my timing light and still advanced it....oops)

i live in canada and shipping is always more expensive for me but your right off boost would be rich and probly kill my mpg. before i order this what ratio did you use?
