Will the transmission out of a escort wagon behind the 1.9L engine work on either a BP swap or anything we all play with? Or was that a ford only? It looks like a G-series trans and I can get one for $25 if it will work, so I was just curious.

Actually I think the 1.9 escorts used the F series trans. Maybe its only 91-up but Im pretty sure they used an F trans. Its better than a stock festy trans but not as good as a G.91GL BP/F3A with boost

Can the bell be swapped? And yea, it does look like an F-series now that you mention it. I get them confused because they both have the sheetmetal cover on the end. I think it's a 91 or 92 escrot wagon. I did notice the top bolts had a wider spread than my festiva trans.Last edited by kartracer46; 05-11-2010, 01:34 PM.91 Festiva GL "Scrat"

I know the bell is different, you might be able to swap the bells with another F-series transmission, but its going to involve taking ever gear and shaft out of the trans and you have to have an F-series to use for the bell anyway.89 Festiva L Carby 4 Speed... For a stronger transmission, look for a 1997+ Ford Escort w/SPI DOHC and the 1998+ Ford ZX2 w/zetec DOHC. These cars also use a G-series trans. The case cannot interchange, neither can the differential, but all the internals can be swapped over. It's been said the Escort/ZX2 trans weak point is the spider gears in the differential, since you will use your current differential or the MSP LSD, that eliminates the problem. The main reason for this swap, are different gear ratios, stronger gears and syncros.
It's also noted that the Ford Escape used a G-series trans. Unknown as to what years or if it was the FWD and/or AWD models.
info thanks to a very informative trans built thread damkid sent me from imazda.com http://www.imazda.com/forums/showthr...ight=zx2+trans
im planning on this setup very soon...with the 5th gear swap they are talking aboutLast edited by fastivaB6TG25MR; 05-11-2010, 08:17 PM.I know its a piece of crap but im still faster...and its 100% legal!!!!!

A lsd is the best option but the diff pin is the weak point. Once welded not really weak anymore. It will still be an open diff but wont blow up. Also the case is weak. It will flex and force the gears apart in 3rd and 4th and will cause them to stip because of the flex. But this is with power levels past 250whp though. This is why many people source (I think) 95-98 kia sephia g series trannys because the case is revised and they seem to be stronger trannys all together.
