  • Feasablity of "early" B6 swap

    Hello all,

I've been given an 86 Mazda 323 with a carbed B6 and auto transmission. Here's what I think I would have to do in order to use the B6 in my 92 Festiva 5 speed.

    1. Install B3 FI intake (complete)
    2. B3 distrubutor
    3. ECU from an EFI B6 with MTX
    4. B6 injectors
5 B6 exhaust manifold or FMS header

Any thoughts? Is it worth it?

    Thanks

the only thing I would change on that list is the intake. Use a B6 piece, due to restriction of the B3.

        Thanks for the input..

so sell the intake and manifold and keep the long block.... pick up a B6 FI intake with corresponding exhaust manifold and ECU and i should be set.

Here"s what I have put together so far....

          B6 long block from the '86 323
B6 EFI intake manifold complete with TB from an '88 or '89 323
          TPS for standard transomissioin
2-plug ECU and distributor (taken from the same car)
roller rocker arms from an Aspire.

          Still to sort out...

exhaust manifold (I'm leaning towards the FMS header)
          clutch, stock or performance

          A couple of questions...

          1. I've noticed that there is an "extra" sensor on the B6 intake manifold between the injectors for the #3 and #4 cylinders. Can someone tell me what this is for?

          2. Would there be any difference in camshafts for carbed vs. injected engines?

          Thanks....
