  • Custom pressure plate

Well, I know it can be done. I have seen pics of the one Stevo made. But there were no instructions on how he built it.

I have a couple in front of me and here's how I see it.

There is one layer of 12 spring steel tines. On top of that is another spring steel ring. If you remove that top ring and replace it with another set of tines, you should increase the clamping pressure.

By looking at the pressure plates they have 3 pins holding the clutch plate to the housing and the housing has been bent over both layers of spring steel on each side of the tines to hold the 2 layers to the housing.

Anyone stop me if I'm wrong, but if I could grind down the pins holding the clutch plate and remove it, then bend back the 12 housing clamps, replace the upper ring layer with another set of tines, bend the housing clamps back, tack the 3 pins back and viola??

This would be free to me vs. a perfomance pp that would cost $$$.

Does anyone have a Spec clutch/pp setup?? Or has anyone ever looked into it? I just put a Spec clutch into my buddies Miata and it seemed very well built and the company seems to really back up their product as if it was OEM quality... In fact I just looked at their website and found Stage'd clutches for Festivas! 1,2,3, or 4!! And they have really reasonable prices. I think I might give them a call tomorrow to see if they really do carry them or if there is a glitch on their site. (SpecClutch.com) -Kyle

How DJ described is the way I did it, except you need to remove the amount of the diaphram thickness from the cast iron "pedestals" that the diaphram rests against. DJ, if you send me your address, I'll send you the one I used in my Festiva (as soon as I find it, we just moved in this month), I am no longer using the Festiva trannys, or the B series engines for that matter.

I was thinking "Stage Two" as well, when I do my 5 speed swap.

Got a car in mind to buy, too.

What is the "lightening" option and is it worth it on the Spec website? Would that be "streetable" with about a 100-110 hp B6?

Remember, I drove the stock well used clutch for 2000 or so miles. It all depends on how you drive and if you really know how to drive a manual. If you tend to feather the clutch to long or dump it to hard then you'll have problems.
