  • IAC Restrictor Mod

I was reading on a forum of Ford mustangs and found out that they did something to the IAC to makes the engine revs down quicker, called the IAC restrictor mod. I am curious about this mod. I would like to try it on my engine to see if it helps. The trick is to restrict the IAC hose.

The computers in the mod-motors are programed to inject the extra air when you let off, so you don't get a fuel rich condition. It's an emissions thing. I don't think we have that problem with our Festivas, at least I don't.

Actually, I really don't have much of a problem on my '04 GT either. It will hang the RPM slightly when you let off to shift, but I'm used to it. Some Stangs do it worse than others. The only advantage I can see to restricting the IAC is that it will let the exhaust "cackle" when you let off.
On the flip side, it can cause the MIL (CEL) to come on.

I am willing to try it. The question is, where to put the restrictor? Before the IAC (where there is a hose connected to the air cleaner hose) or after the IAC (where the IAC is connected to the intake manifold or plenum?

      Thanks

Get a lightened flywheel if you want to speed the rev's up/down

to get it to rev down quicker there is something you can do... there is a little round thing by the throttle cable on the throttle body... about the size of a dollar maybe a bit bigger... it holds the throttle open for a sec to make it not run rich and also to make shifting easier for the slower shifting people... take it off and see the diffrence, i like driving with out it but it dose take some getting use to... if you let off the throttle to quick and dont push in the clutch it kind of jerks.... try it and see

            Dashpot

That piece is called the dash pot and is there to keep the throttle plate from slamming shut. Removing it can cause some problems like a jerky pedal when coming off idle since when the plate slams with vacum it can become stuck.
