Spark plugs for B6 sohc swap?

I just spent about 20 minutes at NAPA talking to the guy about spark plug ratings. I asked for plugs for a 89 323, and they are not the same as the ones for the festiva which I have been buying.

The NGK part numbers are:

BPR5EY stock # 1233 for the festiva, I've been using these and getting bad detonation.

BCPR6ES-11 stock 6779 for the B6

The B6 plugs aren't v-power, but they are one rating cooler than the other plugs. Which plugs am I supposed to be using?

I think I am going to install the cooler plugs and see if they foul, but I am going to wait untill I put in the B6 injectors.

the 6's. the 'bpr' stuff ahead of the # (on NGK plugs) indicates the electrode types (R for Resistor, etc). the 6's should be the correct heat range.

i was talking about the 89 323 1.6 SOHC carberated

If it was me I would run the stock plugs for that engine if you haven't made any other performance mods. Although I don't see any harm at all in running the Festiva plugs either since they are only slightly hotter

I've never used 5's in a Festy. OEM calls for 6's. Your parts guy's list must be off. Not uncommon. BCPR6ES is just 'copper' 'resistor'.

so, BPR6 or BCPR6 with an E, EY or ES would be fine.
