You'll have to make a manifold. Or go rear turbo and not have to worry about a manifold and space. 12:1 fmu, and an extra in-line fuel pump. Stock motor will handle 8 lbs if the fuel is added and timing is retarted. <and is healthyLast edited by eurotiva; 07-21-2010, 10:09 PM.-Greg

fmu's are on ebay for $65. I'd add a 255 lph walbro or similar. Stock injectors will be fine with the increased fuel pressure till around 10 lbs. of boost.
I used to have the b3t but got greedy with my timing at the track and blew a head gasket. Then I went to a b8t, now it's a bpt-Greg

ok thanks got a few more questions how much should the car be retarted and i should have two fuel pumps are just replace the stock one and with the fmu and the fuel pump i will have a safe air fuel ratio right? i plan to get a gauge to monitor it anyways well thanks alot for helping me i really appreiate it

rule of thumb is 1 degree per pound. Make sure to use good fuel (93) also.
If you use a 12:1 fmu @ 10 lbs. of boost=120 psi on the fuel rail. most pumps do not flow much past 100 psi. I prefer 2 pumps-Greg

I would just do a B8 swap and have as much if not more power and way more torque. Not to mention reliability. A lot simpler too. No upgraded fuel pumps, no FMU's, no retarded timing... oh and no custom manifold and plumbing.
Or do a B6t swap. Way more involved but a stock turbo setup is way better than rigging up a non turbo engine.Last edited by bhazard; 07-22-2010, 08:16 PM.91GL BP/F3A with boost

The turbo game is expensive at best, and more expensive if you want to turbo a car with no aftermarket turbo parts for it. That's the good news. The bad news is you HAVE to do a lot of research, or have a friend who's paid his dues in the turbo game, and can guide you, Otherwise even a "small" mistake will cost you dearly. (reads: way more money than a ching chong meow fmu)
Here's an example of a "hidden cost" as opposed to say an FMU cost. Is this by any chance your daily driver? If so, now you'll have to consider the fact that it will be down during the fabrication/fitting process and then the actual build up process. You'll be needing another car to drive while that's going on right.
See, it's really not like just adding a shiney cai with a dozen or so hose clamps.
Not trying to rain on your parade, really just trying to tell you what a lot of us have had to learn and can share with you.
We can't step by step you, it's way, way more complicated than that. We can however ADD to the learning experience, and even stop you from hemoraging money and parts at some point. For starters the very first thing you really want to do is to Pick up a copy of what a lot of people refer to as the "boost Bible" That would be Corkie Bell's "Maximum Boost". You can learn about the science and art of turbocharging and by the way, this guy builds one of the best fmu's on the market. They claim it can actually compensate for "the advent of boost"...you know, good ole "tip in"
Right, you'll need to see what they say that stuff is in the book.
Looking forward to seeing your project...yes you CAN do it!
Feel free to copy any ideas from this!

I really do like your turbo B6 setup. Its probably the cleanest turbo job Ive seen on a non turbo motor. Of course youre running meth instead of intercooling.91GL BP/F3A with boost

I do have a blo-off valve, you just can't see it.
And iceracerdude is correct. I'd use a good fmu. Mine is a vortech ($125)Last edited by eurotiva; 07-23-2010, 05:08 AM.-Greg

The reason I run meth is because A: I ice race this car and as you can imagine, I have access to unlimited cold air lol. There's also the possibility of "snow jamming" with an IC.
(see avatar)
B: Of course with the meth, I can leave a lot of timing in and you know that means extra hp. I can buy meth in bulk here where I'm at, which is about $2.10 a gal. I use about
maybe 5 gallons a season, and a lot of that is me pre-season testing. I just can't seem to keep my foot out of it even a little bit ;-)Last edited by iceracerdude; 07-23-2010, 08:26 AM.

The difference being, when the car "Blows off" that extra unused pressure after the throttle plate slams shut, instead of blowing the already metered air out into the atmosphere, it instead gets routed back into the charge pipe in front of the compressor blades to keep everything spooled up for the power, not the sound. A lot of blow off valves can actually be converted to bypass and vice versa depending on your requirements. That particular valve was a little indulgence on my part (yes, a little engine bling so to speak) It's a $130 Forge bypass that you might find in a mazdaspeed type application. The little silver thimble sized canister in the PCV line is a thing called a "Krankvent" (google that), it prevents the boost from pressurizing the crankcase and yet retains pcv capability off boost. Also join homemadeturbo.com lots of info there. They used to have this funny rule/tradition there, it's been a while for me so I don't know if it's still the norm but. If you were doing your first post you could not just "talk" about what you were "dreaming" of doing, you HAD to either A: show the parts/components you had already purchased or gathered, or B: show the parts on the car/project! Even then, you HAD to post porn along with either of these other 2 options. If you DIDN'T do this, you were imediately attacked by the Heineas and beat down until you complied lol. Boy, did that eliminate the big talking dreamers and time wasting bser's. All that left was real guy's doing real fabrication...very refreshing really. We get a little bit of the latter here at this site if you've had a chance to check things out at all.Last edited by iceracerdude; 07-23-2010, 08:44 AM.
