What is VICS and what does it do?

The reason I ask this is because the b8/bp my brother built for fester we assume needs this. When we first got the engine built and running we noticed a super rich condition along with a CEL. The car done great on gas at first but now it doesnt at all. I drive to work which is about 15 miles and when I left today the car had 1/2 a tank. By the time I got home it was on empty. I did hot rod it alittle but didnt beat it there and back. It runs super rich still yet.

I have heard that the BP that is in the sophia is a non VICS setup. If I was to get this ECU would that eliminate the rich condition and the CEL? We swapped in a SOHC B8 ecu and its smokes way less and there isnt a CEL but it also doesnt have that good of power.

Advancing the ignition timing does nothing for the rich condition either. I want to buy this festy off my brother but I want to fix this problem first. Any info is greatly appreciated!

this is problem i have runs way rich and gets 20mpg i got 26 mpg on fm4 trip

Ok I have been doing some research on clubprotege.com and found out where the VICS is located. Mine/my brothers is missing. Something also about running a wire from it to the ECU?

I guess from what I read its a green and brown saucer lookin thing that sits on the left hand side of the intake manifold. I still dont know what it does or how to hook one up if I did find one.

I assume that since this is missing, the timing itself is retarded by the ecu?

With both mine and your car? Fester doesnt run rich under a steady throttle or at idle, but only when engine braking or stomping it or just reving it kinda tight. Im confused?

It just seems odd that there is no CEL with the B8 ECU and there is less smoke, but a definate loss in power.

OK after about a day of research I found out what VICS does and how to hook it up. Needless to say, fester will tear the tires off in 2nd gear LMFAO!
