  • Valve cover stripping and painting

What's the best way to strip paint off the cover without damaging the detailing?

I just did mine over the weekend. I looked at your engine pics and not sure if your letters are raised as mine were. What I did was cleaned my cover with lacquer thinner to remove all the grime. Then i took a sanding block and sanded the raised letters till the were cleaned up. I made sure that they were the same height. Then painted and let dry for a day. Then using a sanding block i sanded the paint on the raised letters. Tape off the oil fill hole prior to painting. Here is a link to paint a valve cover: http://www.feoa.net/modules.php?name...article&sid=44

I used aircraft paint remover from wal-mart, let it set for 20 min, than took it down to the car wash and power washed the paint off. Cleaned it real good with dish soap. Than I baked the valve cover at 550 degrees, and painted it while hot. Baked the paint right on. I used VHT crinkle finish red. The block is painted with the same crinkle paint, it's just black.

use a metal brush & scrub the surface of the cover. use simple green or carb cleaner with the brush to clean any crap off of it.

then spraybomb it w/room temp being at least 65, the higher the better.
