Only as much as you need to make it level again. That way if you need to do it again, you might have a little wiggle room.

      Decking heads

You need only to cut the head enough to clean it up. I have cut as much as .030" off of the head but had to add a repair shim (.020" thick) under the stock head gasket. A better repair would be to use a thicker Cometic head gasket (especially turbo applications). Good luck

about .020" is what's considered safe for those heads.

nice, did you do the whole 16 valve block and head or just do the regular b6 and then head off of a 16 valve? also did you have to hammer the fire wall back? I AM trying to see is the heads are the same, ie. water jackets and what not, can you comment on that?

i hammered the firewall until it touched the heater box inside the car and then did a soild front tranny mount to stop the intake from hitting bc it is only .5" away from the firewall.

i used the complete engine from a mx3 1992-93, intake head block ect. the nice thing about this engine and head is its a 16v sohc and has a factory headder!

look at regular b6 head gasket for a 323 and see if a 1992-93 mx3 has the same part # and that should let u know if it will bolt up.

I had the machine shop who did my head measure the trave lf the valves from closed to fully open to determine how much I could safley take off. ( not including head gasket thickness) they determined that I could take off about .030 safley. So actually I could have gone more bc of the head gasket but left some room for error in the future.

nice! being as though these are non interference engines, i assume you could take off quite a bit before any thing "absurd" would happen

also on a side note, i am sure i read that the b3 and b6 head are the exact same, so would the b3 header and cam fit the b6?

the b3 cam will fit, (stock or aftermarket) and the header will fit but the ports may be a bit smaller, i cant remember tho... they may have made the header for a b6 and then its just a bit big on the b3...

the heads are diffrent, the ports, valves and chamber are all bigger but the head will interchange.... (b3 on b6 and b6 on b3) just use the head gasket for the head your using....

and the b6-me has totally different bolt pattern on the exhaust. just like the b6t is a odd ball bolt pattern.
