In us noobs defence, you probably knew what posts you were looking for, we often do not.

That said, I've started using the search function a lot, it works pretty good 95% of the time.

      Just my two cents!

okay here would be my little list for what you should do to make you car faster on abudget dime. Yes you could of searched it but 4 pages of getting nowhere could have been avoided by someone bored taking 2 mins to type this out : (like myself lol)

Disclamier: gutting the cat is illegal.....yah. and some of this stuff maybe a bit hard but give it a shot. Also depending on your mechanical abilities, some of these may be out of reach for you but asking questions and doing research will help you!

            a) new plugs (with right gap), new oil and seafoam it. Getting most out of what you have first will make a big difference and help with fuel economy and other such things.. Seafoam will help clean your injectors, carbon bulidup, and other such things, im in love with the stuff. You can buy seafoam for 10bucks CAD at canadain tire i dunno about the states.

            b) Gut the Cat= this is probably good for a hp or 2 on a stock festiva. Cat bolts might be rusty so lubricate them for week before you consider touching them, hit the inside with a broom stick, clear all the material from inside and put it back in. This also makes the car sound really good, not ricey and loud but raspy and noticable.

            c) if you have a die grinder and a 12 bucks to buy a new exhaust manifold gasket (or use the same one) port match your exhaust ports to your exhaust manifold. Research how to do this because you can do more harm then doing good but this should also help pick up a couple hp depending on how bad the casting is.

            d) Make an air intake with a cone filter, although this may be good for only 1 hp, its cheap and can look pretty cool. here is mine: its nothing more then an exhaust tube with some old festiva intake rubber, hose clamps, and a welded on bung. (you can buy a maf box to air filter adapter at any ricer performance shop, the rest is easy).

e)Play around with your timing, depending on what you want you may be able to get a 1/2 hp by lowering your timing by a couple degrees with a timing light, giving it more top end.

You can just put a pipe in place where the cat used to be. I don't know if this will enhance or reduce performance, but that's how mine is done.

Don't remove your cat if your state/region has emissions laws/test... I failed my emissions test because I didn't have a cat!

we only have emissions if the car is ten years or newer

gut it, its alot less work and cheaper, just remove the bolts and take a prybar/hammer or broom stick and just gut it.

Depends on what's inside it. The one I bought is a ceramic core, I have heard that some have a small amount of platinum in them, though I don't know if that's true. I doubt anyone is going to want just the guts of the cat... But you might be able to string a tennis racket... HAHAH!

You could sell the cat and put on a pipe, you might make a little money...

I more mean that you weren't going to get anything for the innards of a catalytic converter. Gutting it and using the shell would be cheaper.

Pretty sure that's right... That's how I was instructed to adjust my timing so I would easier pass my emissions test at least.
