  • Reasoning with the facts

Hey all, i was considering a tranny change and was reading the thread about the various tranny's when it hit me.

Looking at the gear ratios for each tranny it look to me that the festiva E5M-R and the aspire tranny E25M-R both has the same ratios for each gear but the final drive on the aspire tranny is larger than the festivas.

How much difference does this makes, also why is it that people both here and in Jamaica is opting G5M-R and F25M-R since the top two have a better acceleration and better uptop ratios.

i always noticed that the car accelerates very quickly upto 3rd but then the acceleration drop off significantly while in 4th which i now understand why, my question is what type of performance clutch works with the festy tranny and i need little more power uptop for the huge drop off in acceleration any suggestions other than boost or cams?

The owners switch to F and G series transmissions not for the ratios but because they handle much more power for the engine swap they are usually doing at the same time. You can change the 5th gear from one type of G to another for better highway rpms somewhat easily. If you are dropping off in 4th you need more air that's all

It's a MazdaFordnKia thing, and you will understand!

Thanks for ur reply, so it wouldn't be wise for me to swap in a F or G series tranny like how i'm not making dat much power (i'm running the B5 dohc from Japan)

I was thinking along the same lines with respect to the need for more air, so i did a cold air setup, even plan to install a walbro 255 psi fuel pump and a rising rate fuel pressure regulator just so that the engine gets air and fuel when needed, just install a 2.5" exhaust pipe straight through no resonator, cat anything to help with the breathing.

But now my stock clutch not holding when i shift hard and i was wondering which performance clutch or upgrade clutch can work with the E5m-r

The Aspire trans does has a slower final drive ratio (numerically higher) than the Festy. Probably to offset the taller 13" wheels and heavier weight of the Aspire. It would be a great swap if you're running taller tires or even just to gain some extra "around town" zip. I was thinking the G series out of a Capri or EGT has an even slower final drive (like 4.11:1 ?) than either of the E series. There should be some specifics posted somewhere on here.

you mean faster there bucko... the higher the number, the faster you accelerate with a given torque.

Could be slower too right? Since you'd be going a slower speed for a given RPM on the input shaft.

The only universal descriptor is "funner".
