Well lately I have been brainstorming about building a engine. Since I have a Stock BP block and a complete B8 engine I was thinking about building a high compression B8 with vics. This will be a N/A engine but was wondering if the head would even fit a BP block. I kinda figured it would since we built a low compression BP engine using a B8 block and BP head. Just wanted to get some insight on this. I was also thinking about a Hyundai 1.8 beta engine swap since I have one of those too. The tranny and everything sits in the same loacation as the BP. That could totally be done except for the axles. Them would have to be custom fixed by a drive line shop. Once I get this BP out for shadetree I'm thinking about dropping the beta down in the festy for a quick mock up with pictures so you guys can get a idea on what im thinking.

The beta engines are good engines as well, but you gotta keep one thing in mind, the cost of the custom axles vs. the cost of turbo'ing the BP... Turbo'ing a BP will give you way more power, that's my two cents but of course if you decide to try swapping the beta into your festiva, it'll be cool to see something different

Yeah true. A few friends from the hyundai forum have ran 2.0 betas with a decent amount of boost on a stock engine, but those are 2.0's, not 1.8's. The engine design between both are the exact same besides the bore.

I was just tossing the beta idea around since it is identical to the BP.

Cheapest route would be building a high compression B8, unless I found a good BP head for cheap. Its kinda of a mix up right now but both are totally doable.

I wanted to go beta because of the cvvt which is almost the same as VICS on the BP, that and its a diffrent swap nobody has done yet.

Another Idea is a B6 swap which I also have access to aswell. But im more of a 1.8 kinda guy. If the beta was to be swapped in then later down the road I could swap in the 2.0 once I found one.

I wonder exactly how much custom axles would cost?

Wow both the beta and BP are close in HP too. The 96+ Bp has 133hp and the beta 1.8 has 137hp....

Here's a minor food for thought, i thought i've read that the accent 1.6's are a B series engine and could potentially mate to our (festiva's but not my festiva lol) transmissions

If that is true then this would open up a whole new engine swap for us. Mounting the engine and getting axles are half the hassle. I now wondering about wiring it up. Seems like it would be complicated, unless a BP ecu could possibly run the engine? The beta I have is a OBDII so hmm..

Ill look into seeing if out trannies would bolt to the block. Matter of fact ill see if my brothers G-series will.

Well i didnt try the G-series but I did try a e-series tranny and they are real close. The 2 bottom bolt holes line up perfect, but the 2 top holes are wider on betas compared to b-series engines. That was a buzz kill on top of the starters being in a diffrent location.

Ill get some pictures here in a bit if anyone is interested in seeing what I saw. I'm kinda wondering if the festiva axles will fit the beta trannies though? I wish I could try that but I don't have a beta tranny.

Another thing that I was pondering is beta tranny location. If it sits in the same spot as our festiva trannies do then dropping a engine in is cake. Crap I wish I had a tranny to mock up!

No no, I heard the 1.6 only was a Mazda engine, not the beta's, but for axles it "might" give a possibilty

One thing I could do is go to autozone and lay a festy axle next to a accent axle and check the spline count and measure them. Again hmmm...lmfao!

Compare a beta's axle/spline count and depth into the diff and compare that to the E/F/G series axles and hope for a match

A quick check for spline count would be just look up the axle online. If the spline count is the same, dig deeper, if not, no need to bother trying to measure one up. And I hadn't heard about the 1.6 being a b series, but it could be. The one in the accent my friend had me go look at with her didn't look anything like any of our b's though...

I only heard that though, I have very little experience hyundai's so I can't even come close to confirming it

Couldn't find much info on the old 1.6, but the newer one is called Alpha II and is apparently used in... The Kia Rio. Which we know some versions of Rios have similar front suspension at least to Festivas. I think the Alpha II engine started in '06 though, so don't if the newer Rios have any similarity or not.

There is a pre 06 Rio up at the yard. Never though to pop the hood and see what it had.
