  • 1994-1997 Kia Sephia transmission: G-series but what is it related to?

My BP came from a 1997 Sephia. I'd love to do the G series swap and possibly use the early-mid 90s G series. I cannot find anything about the trans... plenty about 98+. Input please!

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong since I'm no expert on the kias, but I think the first generation (which the '97 is) used the same BP that the proteges and EGTs did, so it will likely bolt to the same g series transmissions that other folks have been using from the early 90s escorts, proteges and xr2s right?
    No festiva for me ATM...

Correct, it will, however different G5M trans have different spline counts and output spline counts, I'm looking to find out what that is and see about bastardizing a Kia for a swap.

When they went to their own engine, did they source another transmission or did they continue to use a form of the mazda g series?

Not to get off base but how much different is the Manuel trans in a 2002 Rio? I'm pulling some parts from a wrecked car and the bell housing looks identical I will check the plate and see how close they are and be back !!
New build on the way .

The KIA BP's came with a Mazda G-series. The spline count is different. you will need custom axles if you use it as is. You could try a differential swap like Damkid did with his V6 trans so you can use capri XR2 axles and IM shaft.

I have the complete car so I could just swap the complete front end and shorten the axles correct !!

no, unless the axle shaft diameter is the same througout the axle. and tyipcaly it's not.

So the diff would be a 26 spline count if it were a Mazda G series, correct?

My thought process is to put in the Kia trans, ahd see about an axle shop converting kia half shafts to the 24-spline Ford outers. I cannot for the life of me find a capri/323intermediate shaft to save my life.
