  • Festiva to Aspire ATX final drive mod?

I was wondering if anyone here knew how difficult it would be to change an Aspire ATX final drive to the lower numerical Festiva part?

I'm hoping to go to an Aspire ATX this spring or summer, but I'm rethinking the quicker final drive. I may want to stick with the gas-saving Festiva ratio.

Somehow I doubt I could do this myself.

taking apart a trans really isn't that hard... its just keeping track of all the little bits and pieces. while i've never built one for performance before like Yvan has, i had to take one apart for a lab in school. If you get yourself a nice big (and CLEAN) workbench and lay everything out in the order it came out and keep a shop manual nearby you shouldn't have any problems.

While you're at it, may as well do the other stuff in Yvan's guide... there's nothing in there that would cost very much at all and most times when an auto trans is tuned to shift harder like Yvan has done it will actually last longer due to reduced wear caused by slippage. Just make sure to get an adequately sized trans cooler.

The difference between 3.77 festy ratio and aspire 3.91 most likely won't do much to effect gas mileage, maybe a little but i doubt it. I'd bet you'll find any sacrifice there worth it for the gain in acceleration
