  • MSD box hook up

    A quick question,
I scored a msd box for a steal and I wanted to hook it up in my 88 festiva.
    My question is:
Which wire coming off of the distributor is the wire for the points?
Because for the box it says to run the white wire to the points.
Does festiva's even have points? Or what.

Please any help is appreciated. thank you.

No points. It has a magnetic pickup inside the disty along with the ignition module itself.
The normal is not always normal... MOST is not ALL... And any job can be hard if you don't have the right tools!!!

Call M.S.D. they are good people and are willing to help.

Violet is + green is -, MSD should have separate wires that go to the coil. the ones on my steetfire are orange and black i believe

What wires do I hook up the violet & green to?
Already got the box wired to the coil & batt. Just need to find which wires I connect the violet & green wires to (magnetic pick up) the dizzy.

              Thank you for the help.

Inside the dizzy cap you will find the igniion module. It has 3 connections that are hooked to the wire strand coming out of it. This unit is held in by 2 screws. If you remove those screws you can gently remove the module. When you remove the module you will see it has 2 blades coming off the back of it. What these blades go into is the pickup. So simply remove that module and insert the two msd wires into where those blades were. Not sure which one goes where but it shouldnt damage it if those 2 are reversed. Let us know how it works out.

If you hook it up and it runs like crap, reverse the wires. Thats what I had to do. Mine came with little spacers to hold the magnetic pickup in the right place, and some little spade lugs that I crimped on and then plugged them into the magnetic sensor. Mine's been running great for about 3 years now. Not an MSD but a Crane Cam's
