  • Escort carb arrived.

Got my holley Escort carb for the 88 Festy today. It has a black 6" long wire with a plug on the end coming out of it. Anyone know what I should do with it? The choke has an electrical receptical on it with 2 male contacts inside. Any one have info on this?
    thanks

If you're talking about the wire that is connected to the approximately 3/4" diameter round by about 1-1/2" long "thingy" on the back of the carb (when in the installed position), you can cut that wire off. That is a shut off solenoid that is not needed. After you cut the wire off, you will need to remove the solenoid and take a pair of side cutters and cut the pin that sticks out of it and remove the cut piece and the spring. Replace the solenoid and use it as a pipe plug for the hole.

As far as the choke, I have never used the choke on one of these carbs so I am not absolutely sure on the two connectors, but I would assume one is positive and one is negative. Before connecting any wires to those 2 contacts, make sure you don't need some type of resistor to cut the voltage. Don't connect the full 12 volts until you're sure.

I didn't have to worry about cold starting. I used it for racing in the summertime only. If the temperature was on the chilly side, it was easy enough to pump the accelerator a few extra times before starting, and once it fired, just "bump" the accelerator a couple times more if it tried to stall. It's possible to start a carbed engine in cold weather, but you have to really keep pumping the accelerator so that the accelerator pump on the carb dumps enough gas in it to keep it running until it warms up.

Actually here in the Florida Keys it is warm to very warm just about year around. Maybe we can do without the choke too. But it would be nice to have it working.

If that is the carb you bought, here are the things you need to know for the connections.

I've only used it on the 1.6 and the 1.8 SOHC. I think some other guys on here have used it on the 1.3. There's a long thread from a couple months ago that I think they may have used the carb on the 1.3.

yeah, the B3 install required a re-jet to get it up to snuff (milage and power).

.... As I remember, .050 comes to mind but I'm NOT sure for a 1.3.

This Escort carb has the words "License Weber, Italy" cast on the body. Neat.
Does anyone have the Holley or Ford part number that it is officially known as?

I'm wondering if the jets in the Escort Holley-Weber carb are removable in case I need to change sizes and, if they are, where I can buy new ones?

I have a Holley/Weber 28/36 that was used on Pintos and Vegas. I'm pretty sure it uses standard Holley main jets available at any auto parts store. I know standard Weber parts don't interchange, at least very few of them do.

I'm interested in this Escort carb. What kinda gas mileage are you guys getting on the B6? How about on the B3?
