  • Need little help with Escort Carb

I am helping install the 80's NOS escort carb 1.6L for my friend. It have Festiva with B6 engine so it shouldn't be problem for air/fuel mix. but I don't have the book for older escort about carb stuffs. So I thought id ask you guys might knows and able tell me quickly...

It looks it have electric auto choke... black wire is ground and red goes to special alternator with AC volt like found in 88-89 Festiva right? Also there a vacuum switch housing next together the auto choke what's that?

it looks like it have two solenoids and one it is for fuel cut off switch and what it is other one?

          sorry, man... no book anymore

the one solenoid is, as you said, the fuel cut. The other is the float bowl vent solenoid; off = closed, on = open. Port is connected to the charcoal canister.

as for the two ports on the cover of the choke pull-off...??? I don't remember. Either two vacuum ports, or two coolant ports...

I have converted this carb to use with the B6 and B8. I use it for racing so I can't help you with the choke because I completely remove all parts of it. Refer to the copies of your pictures below for reference:
Remove part "A" completely and discard.
Remove part "B", cut the wire off and cut the pin that sticks into the carb flush with the bottom of the thread. Replace part "B" to use as a plug only. This is the fuel cut-off, but I never had a problem with the engine trying to "diesel" with this removed.
Revove part "C" and replace with a pipe plug. Use gasoline resistant sealer on the threads.
Remove part "D" and replace with a 1/4" pipe plug. You may need to drill and/or tap the hole to fit a 1/4" pipe plug. I don't remember for sure, but I don't think a 1/4" pipe plug will fit without some re-work. Be careful not to get any metal particules inside the carb when you do that.
For part "E" you have 3 options. You can connect it to the charcoal canister, or add a piece of hose and run it back and down along the firewall with an inline fuel filter attached to keep dirt out of the hose. This is the way I did it, except I also had an inline rollover valve, but unless you plan on rolling your Festiva, you won't need that. The third option is to adapt the hose to plug into one of the tubes on the air cleaner.
Remove part "F" and replace it with the cable linkage part from your old Festiva carb.

Here's a link to a picture of the same carb you have, installed on one of my B6's.

We have been unable to get this carb to Idle below 1500. It is currently stalling out and backfiring. seems to be getting too much fuel, any Ideas? Thanks for your help!

I replied to your PM. The part marked "B" in the picture above is what I was talking about in my PM to you. Make sure you have rubber caps on any of the extra tubes that you don't use on the carb. Can you connect a vacuum gauge to the intake manifold and post the reading you get?
