  • BP with stock Festy exhaust

The BP in my Festy is hooked up to the factory .5 inch exhaust down pipe all the way back to the muffler. On Sunday, I'm taking it to a muffler shop to get 2.25 inch pipes all the way from manifold to a Super Turbo muffler. Will this realistically add 10 to 12 horse power from its current set up? Would a glass pack muffler make even more power?

Maybe, maybe not. 10-12 horses is optimistic. You might lose some low end punch but gain high rpm power.

use the turbo muffler, and add the glass pack as a resonator to help eleminate the drone that you'll now have from the 2.25 pipe.

Somebody should make a exhaust setup that has a valve that opens up fully when at WOT and closes a bit at low throttle. Full power, 24/7.

I agree, add a resonator. I have a BP engine with 2.25" exhaust and it is too loud!

I find that there is more top end power, but the bottom end takes a couple seconds to really kick in. I think if I did it again I would install 2" exhaust because I like having instant acceleration.

hahaha nice use of an unwanted throttle body. i'd remove the TPS before installing it though.

From what's posted here, I think I'd keep my standard 2" exhaust system for a BP, just as I have them for my B3 and B6s, with the following:

                        -Magnaflow low restriction cat

-Thrush glasspack as a midpipe resonator

                        -Magnaflow oval muffler

                        All 2" inlets/outlets.

The only difference is that Luxstiva doesn't have the glasspack under the floor, so she is quite noisy. On the other hand, AquaMutt has it and it seems to make a nice difference.

It just seems to me that the 2" system should be pretty good for most B series engines unless you're running a turbo or have a really built engine.

Also, if I were keeping a B3 in a car, I'd probably go down to a 1 3/4" pipe system, or something just under 2". Going midway between the little stock pipes (1 1/2", IIRC) and the 2" system should provide better low end torque, keep the cost down a bit and also lower the weight slightly. All good for the B3; probably good for a B6, too.

                        Just my semi-educated guess-timation!

Thanks SafetyGuy, I've been thinking about 2 inches the last two days because I didn't want to lose any low end torque. So I will more than likely do this tomorrow at the muffler shop. So glad we have a shop that is open on Sundays!

TPS has been on there for two years without issue...idk I guess it doesn't get too terribly hot back there. I welded an extra aluminum flange to the TB so I could make it fit the exhaust easily.

I think I will be installing a wastegate actuator on it to open it up under boost, for now it's cable actuated. I mostly keep it open though, the turbo spools much quicker & has much more top end, I'm guessing my 90° junction there is pretty restrictive

For an N/A BP - 2" is probably sufficient, you might be able to do 2.25" with cat/resonator/muffler

                            My 2¢
