    so i found am escort gt 5 speed, the guy didnt specify year, i was looking at some info, but cant find much, ive heard about like a long snout or short snout or something and was really just wondering what i should be looking at if i go check it out, the cars only 600, may be able to talk the guy down depending on condition

    Are you referring to the crank nose?

      On the main crank pulley, if the bolt holes are in a square shape then its the big nose (later style) crank. If the bolt holes are in an offset shape (not equal distance between each) then its the small nose. I think the Escorts changed over mid year of '91, so the majority of them at the big nose. But really, the condition of the crank nose matters more than "whether its big or small" and unless the guy is going to let you take apart the front end of the engine, you won't be able to know that anyway. Either big or small has been known to fail from an number of different reasons, most involving someone doing a shoddy job on timing belt and/or crank seal replacement.
