just wondering if anyone knows if there is a 16v sohc head that will be a straight bolt up swap for a b3 engine.i don't want to have to change anything if possible, or minor modifications would be OK.

There was a DOHC 1.3 available in japan on the Festiva GTX. But I do not know if it was a direct swap or not. Even if it was, you could buy and swap in another engine model WAY cheaper than it would be to import an outside head. Not to mention all of the engine tuning and possibilities that the Dizzy wouldn't work. It would prolly just be easier to buy that whole engine and ECU and swap it in. Teething and swapping parts back and forth is a bitch.Fast, fun and good gas mileage. 91' Festiva(RIP) and 96' Aspire(RIP). The website is no more.

yes for us Australians there is an option, the Mazda 121 ' Bubble' engine has a b3 in it, and is 16v SOHC engine.
i believe the stock valve cover bolts on to it so no one will no it's 16
(like nsw patrol)
the one thing you haven't considered is it will need custom pistons as the valve groove are different  so it is a very much a pull it apart and rebuild it affair:angel12:-Santos

you'll also have to swap the intake and exhaust manifolds to match the head... best off buying the whole motor and swapping it in.Trees aren't kind to me...
currently: 2 88Ls (Scrappy and Jersey), 88LX, 90L(Pepe), 91L, 91GL (Skippy) 93 GL Sport (the Mighty Favakk), 94 (Bruce) & 95 Aspire SEs, 97 Aspire (The Joker),
94 Justy 4WD, 87 Fiero GT, plus 2 parts cars. That's my fleet.

I'm not to sure that the intake and exhaust are actually an issue, I'll have to browse through the gasket catalogue and check.
The issue is not really about putting the engine in, anyone could probably do it.
The real problem lies in the legality.
Any one can upgrade the engine here in Australia, but to do so it must be a same year or newer engine, if he has a 2000 festiva (yeah an aspire) he would have to make a B6T comply with 2006 emission regulation, not only that he would have to upgrade the brakes, suspension etc etc to handle the extra power and have it all engineered and certified. (price wise extremely expensive)
The one thing that he has going for him is that the B5 engine was available for his car, so he is aloud to upgrade it to a b5 without going through the paperwork.
(Never available on my 87 121 but as it is a newer block i could maybe do it with minimal effort, except i had to prove that all the additional emission crap was on it etc etc)
So maybe you should be turboing a B5 block?
Then dropping it in when it is all done, tell the RTA that you just upgraded the engine cause the other one had engine problems and they will change the paperwork:angel12:-Santos

good head
A little while back Randy Stocker was looking for a B3 short block to put into a miata topped off with a DOHC head, I'm assuming he was going to use a B6 head from a Miata to make a 1300cc engine of about 100hp to get better milage while still having a bolt in engine for the miata.
This guy would know if anyone would, so I'd say try bolting on a B6 DOHC head from either a Capri or a Miata and see if that flys certainly worth a shot since both are easy to find and pretty cheap. FWIW this is probably all the BJ engine is. either that or a DOHC engine with a B3 crank.
