I think there awsome i have the short shifter from simons Pimptiva and i love the adjustability of the shifter. If you are on a budget i was told, and there was a tread somewhere about swapping in a civic short shifter
Wait what kinda car is that!!! Oh yeah thats a ASPIRE

what bennifits does the short shifter have... i mean besides being shorter so there is a shorter throw

wouldn't seem to hard to me to just cut off a stock shifter and make some sort of a knob on it if thats all the bennefit you get, so i'm sure it must help something else as well??

        ^^that's NOT short throw..

You'd have to shorten the shifter and move the pivot ball down to shorten the throw..

Yeah what he said... the pivot ball needs to be moved if you want to get any significant benefit out of it... -Kyle

umm, you got that backward DJ. You have to LENGTHEN the shifter (to keep stock height) and move the pivot ball UP (toward the shift knob) for the throw to be shortened. you need to decrease the leverage you have at the shift knob to shorten the throw by making the length on the other side of the pivot point longer.

Yeah I saw that just now.. the pivot ball should go up not down.. But I wouldn't lengthen the shifter.. stock height sucks..

I am having a hard time understanding the short shifter concept. It seems to me that shortening the top of the shifter would lessen the distance you have to move your hand, for the same travel of the linkage. Lengthening the bottom part of the shifter would further shorten the throw (if throw means how much you move your hand). Shortening the top and lengthening the bottom is the same as moving the pivot.. What am I missing here?

You nailed it on the head. It is all about leverage. Though shortening the top and lengthening the bottom is not exactly the same thing as moving the pivot point. You could take alot off the top and only add a little to the bottom. If I was to make a short shifter, I would just lengthen the bottom, because I like the height of the current shifter, just wish I didn't have to move the shifter as far.

                        short throw

I picked up a non adjustable one from ebay made for a 323/protege, and it was a perfect bolt in. Just had to remove the pivot bushing that came with it. (too large of a diameter) It gave me like a 40-50% throw reduction and only cost me about $25 with shipping.

I would like to get one but I am afraid of buying something and it not fitting/ working. Does anyone know of the "Name Brand" or "Part Name/ Model Number" of a (Shorter than stock - Short throw) shifter?

                            Get this one:

It's the same one I bought. Just remove the chrome bushing that you see in the pic and it just drops into the factory location.

Is it really made of steel, or is it aluminum? If it's aluminum then there's risk of it being a bad casting. If steel, then it was probably machined from a solid piece and should be ok.

I am wondering whether the ball can be moved on the stock shifter, like grinding a weld and rewelding it. If so, then how much would it need to move and where would the knob sit in the end? All this would cost only time. I would also like to add bearings at the linkage point.
