so with my engine possibly being a gonner. what would be needed o make this motor work in my 97 aspire and still keep it OBD-II compliant? i know i will need my crank sensor off the old engine but what else would need to be done and is it even possible to keep it OBD-II.

i have to keep it OBD-II to pass emissions, where i live they do the computer emissions check. otherwise i would be looking into a bigger engine swap.

also will the stock aspire trans be sturdy enough to handle that engine?

that head won't work because there's no EGR passage. you need that passage for it NOT to throw a code.

If you could find a '96 EGT donor car you could have an OBDII BP. Or possibly make something happen with a Z5 out of a '96/'97 Protege. I think someone on here either was considering or maybe even trying that swap, but can't remember who. With the Protege it might not even require a full harness swap if the ECUs will plug in since the Z5 already uses Mass Air like the Aspire. Wiring and sensors from a '96/'97 Miata might help you make an ODBII BP as well, though the intake manifolds would be extremely different. Sensors might swap over though.

The best OBD2 BP swap is the Sephia, like mine. Much easier to find, newer, and almost plug-n-play.

Oh yeah, I forgot that "sophias" (as everyone on CL around here calls them) also had BPs... up though '99 or so right? Before they changed to Spectras and started using a Kia motor?

What Bell Housing pattern do the 1.5 Z5's use? That engine is "B series" based. But did they carry over the same pattern?

You need the electronic stuff for whatever ecu you decide to go with. I think that's a gross oversimplification, but I think that's about the gist of it.

$300 for a rebuilt B6 sounds like a good deal. What cars will that motor fit?

i'll have to look at my 97 aspire (has 2g B6 swap) but i don't believe it has an EGR port. essentially, that's the only thing stopping you from many swaps.

I wonder if you could duplicate the proper EGR signal with a in line resistor to keep the DTC from popping? I know the guy who did the B3 Miata used something similar to eliminate the 02 sensor on his swap..... You would just need the lookup tables to know what the ECM wants to see to keep it in closed loop.

                          Right?
